On August 25 & 26, the Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce (OCCC) presents its 31th Annual Chinatown StreetFest. In celebrating the Year of the Dog, the Chinatown StreetFest attract thousands of people to come savor the taste of Asia—and to experience the traditions that Oakland's Chinatown has so diligently preserved.
Consisting of more than 200 booths, the festival will span 8 blocks of Chinatown. Every year, small businesses and community organizations from all over California come to showcase a myriad of delicious foods, unique Asian products, and special services. There will be arts & crafts, live music, cultural entertainment, and attractions for families and children. Many attractions at the StreetFest will also be targeted just for families and children. There will be a youth area featuring carnival rides, petting zoos, giant slides, dunking booths, and lots of other activities. At the StreetFest Cultural Village, both young and old will enjoy hands on instruction and activities such as calligraphy, origami, and face painting.
The highlight of the festival remains its entertainment, and there will be no shortage of it at the Chinatown StreetFest. The Cultural Stage will feature a variety of diverse Asian ethnic acts, such as Chinese lion dances, Japanese taiko drumming, Chinese cultural musical performances, Tahitian dances and much more. Over at the Popular Stage, festival goers will be able to enjoy rock, jazz and R&B performances from some of the Bay Area's finest bands. Whatever the performance, StreetFest explorers will either be kept in awe or will be dancing in the streets.
The two-day event runs from 10AM to 5:30PM and is free to the public.
