The Junior Museum & Zoo is a place where children and their caregivers come to explore, discover, create and play. Through hands-on science exhibits and a diverse community of live animals, your child's natural scientist will be nurtured.
A menagerie of science programs for schools and community groups are offered, as well as classes, summer camps, and birthday parties for families.
Help little explorers make big discoveries in our Zoo or Museum, at our Baylands Nature Center, or in support of Special Events. Teenagers to Seniors are welcome. Please visit our Accessibility page to learn more about volunteer opportunities for people with physical or developmental disabilities.
The museum is temporarily located at Cubberley Community Center Auditorium while the Junior Museum & Zoo is being rebuilt. During this time, the zoo is closed to the public, and there is no nearby playground.
To apply to any of the volunteer opportunities, complete a Volunteer Application (), and return it to Ines Thiessen via fax (650.473.1965), via email (Ines.Thiessen@CityofPaloAlto.org) or in person by visiting the Museum & Zoo. Note that the minimum age for volunteering at the Jr. Museum & Zoo is 15.
